ARC news from my fake publicist
Becky said I have to come out of hiatus to share this.
You know how some of those self-help books talk about alter egos, and how loads of famous performers use that strategy to help them overcome stage fright or just get in the zone? I decided a while ago that I wanted to try something like that, only the nerdy book version. So instead of a full-blown alter ego, I invented a fake publicist. A fake publicist is very handy because:
You don't have to pay her.
She is relentlessly cheerful and supportive. I named mine Becky, after Becky Bloomwood of the Shopaholic book series, because I could think of no one else (real or fictional) who possesses such unwavering optimism.
She doesn't get embarrassed by the same stupid stuff as me. Instagram doesn’t intimidate her at all.
She thinks my books are fab and isn’t afraid to say it. It’s her job to say it, in fact! If I even inch toward people pleasing wallflower a la Katherine Heigl in 27 Dresses she puts a stop to that real fast. (I'm hitting the rom-com analogies pretty hard in this one, sorry.) (Hideous bridesmaid dresses aside, her wardrobe was fantastic in that movie.)
I can't say yet how this strategy has worked for me, because it’s still new. But I think it’s worth a shot, and if you've tried a similar tactic I’d love to hear how it’s gone!
Now, with Becky’s encouragement:
📢 ATTN: ARC readers wanted! 📢
The ARC campaign for my new book, Octavia Hall is now open! If you’d like to be among the first to read this fast-paced spy novel set during the American Revolution, you can join my free campaign at BookSprout.
🎯 If you like historical fiction with high stakes, multiple POVs, soft romance (the Mature rating is because of wartime violence), and characters with questionable motives, this book is for YOU!
Here are the details:
🗓 Dates: August 18 - September 15 (Release day!)
✒️ Length: 101,000 words (368 pages in print, though the ARC is an ebook)
✅️ ARCs available: 25
Wait a minute, I thought this was a sequel. Does that matter?
While Octavia Hall is the sequel to The Turncoat in Carrington Park, it can absolutely be enjoyed as a standalone read since the story follows new protagonists. There are some Easter eggs for readers who’ve read the first book, too 😉
It’s been a long time coming, and I can't wait to share this with you! Thank you for your support! 💐
