My favorite part of a book to write
I love, love, love writing dialogue! I always try to use the “show, don’t tell” method of storytelling and I find dialogue is often a fantastic way to reveal little bits of information or advance the plot. Not in a big info-dump kind of way, but conversations that sound natural and human. I’m not going to spoil anything, but chapter 10 in The Turncoat in Carrington Park is my absolute favorite scene. It’s essentially one long conversation between three people and I spent a ridiculous amount of time sharpening it until it came out just the way I wanted. It has one of my favorite lines in the whole book, too. I’m so pleased with how it turned out!
In Kore’s Field my favorite part to write was chapter 24. It has a couple of lovely scenes and provides a critical, surprising turning point. I found myself reading that chapter over and over when I was working on it. To me, that’s when writing turns from a fun and exciting exercise into something truly magical.
What is your favorite part of writing? Dialogue, descriptions, arguments, romantic banter? Let me know!
