Octavia Hall: The official book soundtrack
Because I can't write in silence.
Creating a soundtrack is one of my favorite parts of writing a book. I go into my process in more detail in my post for the Turncoat in Carrington Park soundtrack, so I won’t spill it all here. One big difference with this playlist is the song identifiers. Often I tag a track as “The Song for Chapter X” but since I didn’t number the chapters this time (it cycles through multiple POVs) that didn’t work. Most of the songs are associated with specific characters or settings this time.
Let’s get down to the music. I found some great new artists and I am so happy to share them with you!
Tales of Luria by Sail North: Silas’s song, and the song for Kingsford
The Blood of Cu Chulainn by Mychael Danna and Jeff Danna: the song for the apothecary shop
Irish Eyes by Rose Betts: Hannah’s song
What an Awesome God by Phil Wickham: the song for the marsh
How You Like Me Now by The Heavy: William’s song
Renegades by X Ambassadors: the Bentwood song
Road to Camelot by Diane Arkenstone: the walking song (because good grief there’s loads of walking in this book)
Fast Car by Tracy Chapman (a personal favorite): the song for Meg’s house
Santiana by Sail North: Silas’s second song
Robin & Marian by Nickel Creek: the second walking song (seriously so much walking)
The Road is a Lover by Alison Krauss and Union Station: the song for the garrison dinner (one of my favorite chapters)
Rehab by Rihanna: Hannah’s second song
Mountain Man by Crash Kings: Daniel’s Song
Awesome God by Taryn Harbridge: Hannah’s third song
End Credits of The Last of the Mohicans by Trevor Jones and Randy Edelman (may have to find it on YouTube): the song for Hannah’s last chapter
Not with Haste by Mumford and Sons: the song for the epilogue
What’s your favorite music for writing? I’m always looking for new artists!
