Soundtrack for Kore's Field
One of my favorite parts of finishing a book is putting together a soundtrack of the most important music I listened to while writing it. I love the way a playlist can capture a very specific season in life, so that just a handful of songs can trigger a tidal wave of memories. This particular soundtrack is one of my very favorites, partly because of the variety, but mostly due to the first track: Page 47. While I know it’s from National Treasure: Book of Secrets, I only saw that movie when it first came out in theaters years ago, and I honestly couldn’t tell you when it plays. The opening credits? Some scene where Nic Cage is studying a super old piece of parchment? I have no clue. But during the time I was writing Kore’s Field, I happened to work at a school in a lower elementary classroom, and we took a field trip one October afternoon to see a magician and he played this music in the background as he introduced some his illusions. I was riveted. Not by his tricks (though he was really good!) but by the music. It was just so perfect for Alyce, I knew it had to be her theme. I spent the next couple of weeks trying to figure out exactly where I’d heard that particular strain (this was before the days when you could just ask Siri to tell you the name of a song) but then it hit me: National Treasure!
All that backstory to say, I hope you enjoy this soundtrack as much as I do :)
