Self publishing sounds like hard work! Are you self publishing so as to have more control over cover art etc? I’m hoping to be traditionally published, but the thought of not designing my own cover bothers me…

I self-publish because this is more a hobby for me than anything else at the moment. Many years ago I did the whole query process for several manuscripts and received who knows how many rejections. (I probably wasn’t ready, to be candid.) Slowly I realized that what I really loved was the writing itself, and that making an income solely from books was not realistic for me. This way I get to have all the fun without the pressure. I’m happy for anyone who succeeds in traditional publishing, though!

To finally answer your question, I do like keeping control of more things. If I were an artistic person I think it would be so fun to design a cover. It would add a whole new level of meaning.
