What I'm working on now
This has been kind of a weird year for me. Not in a bad way, just in a getting-back-in-my-rhythm kind of way. I spent months editing and formatting The Turncoat in Carrington Park, getting it ready for publication back in July. I’d actually finished writing it last November, but I’d forgotten how long it takes to actually publish, and how large the gap can be between finishing a manuscript and having the actual book in your hands. It had been so long since I’d done this (Kore’s Field was published in 2018) that it felt kind of like taking a break from running for seven straight years, and then saying one day, “I’m going to start training for a marathon.” Your body remembers what to do, but it’s 1000x harder than you remember, and you keep saying things to yourself like, “Was it always this hard?” Yes. Yes it was. It just didn’t seem hard when you were in shape.
So I spent way too much worrying, waffling, and getting back in shape for the publishing process. This meant I spent the first half of the year doing very little writing. This is not good! It’s a generally accepted piece of writing wisdom that as soon as you finish a book, you should immediately start writing the next. Maybe not immediately. Definitely take time to celebrate, or a longer hiatus if you need it. I usually give myself about a month to rest and reset my brain. But that’s not what happened this time. It’s been nearly a year since I finished Turncoat and I still haven’t finished another book.
That said, I am working on something, and when I get closer to the end I’ll share more details. Just wanted to drop a quick note so you know I haven’t stopped writing :)
